What blooming lovely Lotus flowers Whose perfume fills Siam Grow tranquilly in turbid showers Down by the Mekong dam In monsoons mixed with diesel fumes And in rice paddy mud With beautiful light-hearted blooms These future Buddha’s bud	ดอกบัวอะไรหนอ ที่กลิ่นเกสรกำจายกำจรตรลบทั่วแดนสยาม เติบก้านชูใบอย่างเงียบ ๆ และสุขศานติ์ ใต้สายฝนพร่าพรำกระหน่ำหนัก อยู่ริมฝั่งโขง ในท่ามกลางลมมรสุมอันเจือคลุ้งด้วยน้ำมันดีเซล และในโคลนเลนไร่ข้าว แย้มกลีบงามเบิกบานเป็นพานพุ่มชวนจำเริญใจ บัวเหล่านี้ล่ะ หน่อเนื้อแห่งพระพุทธศาสนาในอนาคต
They blossom where there’s poverty Beside the bamboo sheds Not in the lap of luxury Upon rich rosy beds They spring up from a dirty pool With manners that are mild These lovely lotuses whose cool Cool hearts are undefiled	บัวเหล่านี้จักบานอยู่ในที่ที่มีคนจนยาก ข้าง ๆ กระต๊อบไม้ไผ่ มิใช่ในวงตักแห่งความเฟื่องฟูหรูหรา หรือบนเตียงวิจิตรฟุ้งกลิ่นกุหลาบ บัวเหล่านี้แม้จะงอกขึ้นมาจากบ่อโคลนตมสกปรก แต่ก็กลับเปี่ยมไปด้วยมารยาทอันอ่อนโยน บัวที่มีดวงใจเยือกเย็น อันมิอาจนิยามออกมาเป็นคำพูดได้
Amid the bustling tuk-tuk noise They grow up so polite With such great dignity and poise And hearts that are pure white And in the land of elephants Serene as Buddha’s face They grow up with such elegance And such amazing grace	ในท่ามกลางเสียงแผดประดังของรถตุ๊ก-ตุ๊ก บัวเหล่านี้กลับเติบโตขึ้นมาอย่างนิ่มนวล มีความสงบเย็นสง่างามในท่วงที และมีดวงใจอันขาวผุดผ่อง เติบใหญ่บนแดนคชสาร สงบนิ่งราวกับวงพระพักตร์แห่งพระผู้มีพระภาคเจ้า บัวเหล่านี้งอกงามขึ้นอย่างสง่า และงามเปี่ยมจรรยาน่าอัศจรรย์
For where light-hearted people work For sixty cents an hour Amid the deepest darkest murk You’ll find the lotus flower They bloom on Chao Prya river banks Down in the Bangkok ditch And where rice farmers offer thanks Not court-yards of the rich	เพราะคุณจักเห็นดอกบัวเหล่านี้ บานอยู่ในที่ที่ผู้คน ต้องทำงานอาบเหงื่อต่างน้ำ แลกค่าแรงชั่วโมงละ ๖๐ เซ็นต์ ในท่ามกลางหมอกหม่นอนธกาล บนฝั่งแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา ในบึงน้ำทั่วกรุงเทพฯ ในที่ที่ชาวนากล่าวคำขอบคุณแก่กัน มิใช่ในลานบ้านหรูของคนรวย
For they don’t grow by ivory towers Like roses raised for show But most enlightened of the flowers The lovely Lotus’ grow Wherever good and gracious Thai Who come from poorer parts Hold their resilient heads up high Their brilliance fills their hearts	เพราะบัวเหล่านี้ มิได้บานอยู่ข้าง ๆ หอคอยงาช้างหรือวิมานไหน ผิดกับเหล่ากุหลาบ ที่ถูกเลี้ยงขึ้นมาเพื่อโชว์ประชัน ทว่า บัวนั้นคือดอกไม้ ที่เจิดจำรัสกว่าบรรดาดอกไม้ใดผอง บัวเหล่านี้จะบาน ในที่ใดก็ตาม ที่คนไทยใจดี มีกิริยาสง่างาม ผู้เร่ร่อนมาจากจังหวัดอันแร้นแค้น เชิดหน้าสู้ชีวิตอย่างไม่ย่นระย่อ บัวนี้มีหัวใจที่เต็มพร้อมไปด้วยปัญญา
They sway with grace in muddy fields Of friendly old Isaan Where bending families tend their yields And where my darling Nan Like petals of the lotus folds Her praying hands at night And opens up her heart that holds A cup of pure white light!	บัวเหล่านี้จักโอนไหวอย่างสง่างามอยู่ในบึงโคลน แห่งอีสาน ดินแดนเก่าแก่ อีสาน ที่หมู่เฮาชาวนาก้มหลังโก้งโค้งปลูกข้าว อีสาน ที่ แนน ยอดดวงใจของผม นั่งประนมมือเป็นพุ่มเหมือนดอกบัว สวดมนต์ไหว้พระก่อนเข้านอน พร้อมกับเปิดดวงใจ ที่พร่าพรายไปด้วยแสงขาวพิสุทธิ์สว่างกระจ่างใส
